Cost consultancy sits at the intersection of design ambition and financial reality, and it is often the first discipline engaged on a project — sometimes before a single line has been drawn. As cost consultants, we advise clients on the likely cost implications of a proposed development at the earliest, most fluid stage of thinking: testing whether a concept is financially viable, advising on budget-setting, and helping clients understand the cost trade-offs between different scales, specifications, or delivery approaches before they commit to a direction.
This is distinct from — though closely connected to — the detailed cost planning and quantity surveying work we carry out under our Cost Management vertical. Cost consultancy operates at a more strategic, advisory level: helping a client decide what kind of project they can realistically afford to build, what returns or value a development might generate, and where the biggest cost levers in a scheme actually sit, so that as the project moves into detailed design, it does so with a realistic and well-tested financial framework already in place.
