Fire Engineering & Strategy Design

The overall fire safety engineering approach, integrated into a building's fundamental planning from the earliest design stage.

What’s included

  • Fire and smoke containment and control strategy.
  • Evacuation strategy and travel distance analysis.
  • Structural fire performance specification.
  • Integrated systems coordination strategy.
  • Performance-based fire modelling for complex or irregular buildings.
  • Early-stage coordination with architects and structural engineers on fire-critical design decisions.

For any building beyond the simplest, fire safety cannot be an afterthought bolted onto a completed design — it has to be engineered into the building's fundamental planning from an early stage. Fire engineering and strategy design is where we develop the overall fire safety approach for a building: how fire and smoke will be contained and controlled, how occupants will safely evacuate, how the structure will perform under fire conditions, and how the various physical systems (detection, suppression, smoke control, compartmentation) will work together as a coherent, integrated strategy rather than a collection of disconnected components.

This is genuinely engineering work, often involving fire modelling and performance-based analysis for complex or unusual buildings where prescriptive, one-size-fits-all code requirements don't adequately address the building's actual configuration or risk profile. We work closely with architects and structural engineers at this stage, because so many of the decisions that determine a building's fire performance — travel distances, compartment sizing, structural fire ratings, stair and lobby configuration — are fundamentally architectural and structural decisions that fire engineering has to influence early, not correct later.
